THE HUB UNCONFERENCE AND HUB AWARDS
Zimbabwe’s leading new media conference comes alive! The Hub Unconference at Shoko Festival is back bigger and better! The 2016 edition of the Hub is here to take new media, citizen journalism and tech to the next level! Happening from the 23rd to the 24th of September at the Harare City Library the Hub is welcoming guest speakers from the UK, USA, Zambia, Uganda and Zimbabwe. This year’s event will dive into the burning issues about the internet today: from net neutrality to monetising content, from internet shutdowns to cutting edge new citizen journalism ideas. Including speakers from Buzzfeed (USA), #Istand4Peace (Zambia), TechZim (Zimbabwe) and Sahara Reporters (Nigeria) this gathering is guaranteed to get you buzzing!
This year will see the Hub adopt a vibrant format ranging from lightning talks to panel discussions, from presentations to awards. The Hub Awards will take place again this year and will award 4 cutting edge ideas that use new media and tech to solve key problems. The Hub Awards have a proud tradition of awarding and supporting the next generation of Zimbabwe’s new media start ups such as TV Yangu, Spiked and Raki Images. This year will see us discovering new voices and working to turn their dreams into the future!
This year will also have a cool Virtual Reality Lounge and stalls exhibiting leading Zimbabwean start ups. So if you’re looking for inspiration about the future of the internet, wanting to network with leading new media activists or just to hang out in virtual reality then the Hub is the place for you! Come along to the Hub, get inspired and come alive!
The Hub Programme is proudly sponsored by the Embassy of Sweden and Norwegian People’s Aid
